Salcey Forest and Silverstone Woodlands

Why we want you

Salcey Forest and the surrounding South Northants woodlands are huge and everything keeps growing! This is good but sometimes nature can over-run an area, so that the big plants thrive at the expense of the small ones. Or the butterflies' favourite sunny glade becomes shaded out. Or the path becomes too muddy for use.

You can help by enabling us to keep on top of the undergrowth and keep the trails clean and tidy and up to scratch. You might even try your hand at a bit of coppicing, tidying up after timber harvesting or other forest operations. Or any of the other numerous tasks involved in woodland management.

What's in it for you?

·Being outdoors, getting fresh air and exercise and improving wildlife habitats.

·Seeing the result of what happens when more light hits the forest floor.

·Seeing overgrown trails being opened up.

·A sense of satisfaction of giving something back to the woodland.

·Being with likeminded people and working as part of a team to improve the environment.

·And it's fun too!

How much time would you need to give?

We meet once a month at Salcey Forest (generally the third Wednesday) and once a month at a woodland around Silverstone (generally the first Tuesday).

Sessions run from 10am-3pm but you can stay for as long or as little as you like.

What skills would I need?

All you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in. You do not need to be physically fit and we provide all the tools, training and equipment required for each task.

How can I apply?

If you are aged 18 or above and would like to volunteer please complete an application form (under 18's require parental consent).
